CONGRATS to DAVID MOORE - FINALIST: LEN FOX PAINTING PRIZE!
David Moore
Melbourne, Australia
Len Fox Painting Prize Finalist, Castlemaine Art Museum (CAM)
David Moore is a painter of light.
"I am interested in the way light hits certain forms; those forms give a particular effect. People then have a reaction to the luminous".
David Moore is an exceptional painter in the genre of still life and landscape painting.
The first response is what David is interested in and is struck by when embracing an image. It becomes framed in his mind as a painting - be it a still life, a country dirt track, a cloud billowing or a shelf of small, bottles, cups and a bowl. This is the essence of his sensibility to painting various subjects. David is conscious of what the viewer is experiencing when looking at his paintings. He is aware of the feedback from the audience and engaged in the way onlookers respond to his work. However, this is not why he paints, he paints because he loves painting. It is that classic simplicity that makes his work so appealing to many people who admire and collect.
David is also a rigorous and exceptionally generous painting teacher of tonal observation. He passes on what he knows about oil painting to anyone who is interested. He does so with sensitivity, thought and genuine love. He teaches in the tried and tested tradition of seeing through a viewfinder, then establishing black and white understanding of tone before progressing on with a controlled colour palette.
