About:
Clayton Tremlett strikes me as an Artist who is always considering the subject and researching what matters. His artworks can be amusing, but always reflective and thought provoking on his chosen topic.
In this survey exhibition we re-present the Unissued Australian Stamps – these ‘stamps’ never exactly name ‘who’ or ‘what’ is being commemorated, you have to do a bit of thinking of your own, the clues are all there, one needs to employ a bit of fun detective work!
The Beard and Influence bush ranger figures are an interesting look at Australian history with the Artist putting himself into the picture as the respective bush ranger, complete with the appropriately attired beard. Tremlett’s very rare Artist-made-books are in this exhibition too. Some are subversive, a bit tongue-in-cheek and although the artist has manipulated the idea into a bookish artefact, the core substance is based on primary source material – facts.
